Germination Testing
We offer germination tests to farmers before they condition and treat farm-saved seed at AST. This process ensures that seed supplied to AST by farmers meets a reasonable quality standard for successful processing.
AST advises farmers not to condition or treat any seed with a germination rate below 80%.
Seed Processing
AST processes legally retained grain from farmers into usable farm-saved seed at the request of our clients. Using specialised equipment, we remove unwanted materials such as sclerotinia, small stones, discolored or foreign seeds and split kernels. The cleaned seed is then classified into three kernel sizes. To ensure full traceability, samples are retained at delivery, as well as before and after processing.
Seed Storage
Our seed storage facility covers more than 8 000 m² and is purpose-built to protect seed quality and longevity. We maintain clean, dry and secure conditions, with careful handling and regular quality checks to keep all seed in excellent condition. This ensures that seed integrity is preserved right up to delivery. For added peace of mind, our facility is fully insured, ensuring that farmers' seed is stored safely and responsibly.
Seed Treatment
Our seed treatment process includes both chemical and biological methods to enhance seed health, vigor and vitality. It helps protect against fungal infections and insect damage, improves germination rates and promotes stronger nitrogen fixation.
Seed Packaging
Farmers can choose to pack their farm-saved seed into 25kg, 500kg, or 1-ton bulk bags, which AST will delivery directly to their farm.
